"Finding Flaco"

with Jacqueline Emery and David Lei

On February 11th, 2025, part-time wildlife photographers Jacqueline Emery (English Department) and David Lei talked about their new book. Finding Flaco: Our Year with New York City's Beloved Owl, which tells the story of the world-famous Eurasian eagle-owl who was released from the Central Park Zoo by a vandal in 2023 and made the city his home. The book, which has received praise from The New York Times Book Review and others, features more than 200 photos of Flaco, as well as poetry and artwork. It also explores the community response to Flaco's death and ongoing efforts to make New York safer for raptors and other birds. Learn more about Emery and Lei's work here.
