Campus Environmental Education Center

The CEEC is part of Old Westbury's Social and Environmental Justice Institute. The CEEC's goals include the following:

  • To educate and cultivate the larger biotic community on campus, which includes humans, animals, plants, and all members of the ecosystem
  • To raise awareness and inspire action concerning local environmental and climate justice issues
  • To restore and nurture a sense of a place, in particular connection to Long Island's natural history and its evolving environmental present and future
  • To foster opportunities to grow healthy behaviors and attitudes toward the green world and to encourage the necessary skills and values that sustain it
  • To plant metaphorical seeds of care-taking virtues, including but not limited to patience, humility, wonder, joy, hope, attention, creativity, and gratitude

Community Partners

Balloon Mission:

Balloon Mission is a Long Island based initiative that passionately advocates for the community to "collect-preserve-protect" baloon waste. Od Westbury has two balloon recycling bins on campus. One bin is located by the ID office in the Campus Center and the other can be found in the mian entrance of the Student Union. All members of the campus community are encourage to "pop and drop" balloons from events and to learn more about the very real threat balloon waste poses to wildlife and local ecosystems through Balloon Mission's research and advocacy. Any students interested in learning more or exploring an internship with Balloon Mission should contact Dr. Jesse Curran.
