Requesting Items in ILLiad 

Automatic Request

When searching in the Library Catalog/Databases, if we do not have an item, the catalog will prompt you to get the item through Interlibrary Loan.

After clicking on the link, the citation information will automatically be uploaded into a request form. Click on SUBMIT REQUEST at the bottom of the page. You will receive an email when the item is available for you. 

Manual Request

  • Login to your ILLiad account 
  • Under NEW REQUEST on the left side, choose the type of item you would like to request
  • Enter the needed information on the request form and hit SUBMIT REQUEST at the bottom of the page 
  • You will receive an email when the request has been fulfilled for you

When your electronic request (Article/Book Chapter) is available for you, you will receive an email. To view the material, log in to your ILLiad account and select Electronically Received Articles under the VIEW section. 
The article will be available on your account for 30 days. Please save/download or print the article to keep it longer than 30 days.  

Requesting Items through Resource Sharing 

When searching in the Library Catalog/Databases, if we do not have an item but another SUNY library does, the catalog will prompt you to get the item through Resource Sharing. 
  • Start by signing in to MY ACCOUNT on the Library Webpage
  • At the top, select NEW SEARCH and search for the book you are looking for
  • If we do not have a copy in the Old Westbury collection, the catalog will prompt you to Request Item from another SUNY Library
  • Select SUBMIT at the bottom of the request form and now you're done
  • You will receive an email when the item is available to be picked up from the circulation desk

PICK UP BOOKS

Pick up requested books at the Circulation Desk
They will be held for you for 10 days

BOOKS ON HOLD

When searching for a book, if we have it available and you would like to place it ON HOLD to pickup at the circulation desk, click on Request Item for Pickup. 
You will receive an email when your item is on hold at the circulation desk.
