Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows OW Library to borrow physical items and obtain copies of articles or book chapters from resources that are not held by Old Westbury Library. 

Some items ILL you can request:

  • Books/Book Chapters
  • Articles
  • DVDs 

*Note: An ILLiad account must be created to request items. If you do not have an account, please click here to create one here. ILLiad is the electronic system you use to request an item through Interlibrary Loan. The name ILLiad is an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

Due to the social distancing restrictions, physical items such as books and DVDs must be picked up by appointment only at the SUNY Old Westbury Library Circulation Desk. You will receive email instructions on how to retrieve your item after you have placed your request. Electronic Items will be delivered directly to your ILLiad account.  instructions. 

Patron Responsibilities with Interlibrary Loan Items

  1. Items are borrowed for you from another library.
  2. Please return the item on or before the due date.
  3. Renewals are determined by the lending library.
  4. Do NOT put any markings in the book, this includes but not limited to:
    • pen, pencil, highlight marks,
    • no folding/ripping the pages
  5. You are responsible for any damages or if you lose the item and may be charged.
  6. Do not remove paperwork attached to the item, this includes but not limited to:
    • paper clipped receipt
    • wrapped around the item cover

Requested items are kept on the hold shelf at the library circulation desk for 10 days once they are received. If you are unable to pick up the item within those 10 days please contact the interlibrary loan staff,
